Over the years, i occasionally open up Apple’s Garage Band and play around with putting together some sort of song idea or fragment. In the early days, i used the proveded loops and mixed them together in interesting ways. Soon i started adding in my own guitar bits.

Almost all of the drumming is via the provided loops, but i tend to overlay many percussions, sometimes using two or three drum kits or beats with added shakers, tambourines, or other clicky noises.

There are FOUR PAGES of this stuff (39 pieces), so proceed at your own peril. Most pieces are unfinished and last around thirty seconds, although there are some more complete compositions that made it to three or four minutes long. Enjoy.

Note: If a piece is tagged with “a” or “b”, that means that i made more than one song that day. The first song of the day was named with the date, any subsequent song had an “a”, “b”, etc. appended.

Part 1: 2006–2007

February 10, 2006

Song 060210 – Test 2
Song 060210 – Test 3

These two pieces were created entirely with the provided loops, but already, you can see my penchant for layered drum tracks.

February 13, 2006

Song 060213

This piece uses tracks that i played. I don’t remember if i played them on a keyboard on the screen or whether i had my DX-7 hooked up via MIDI, but there’s no change in the piece, just one groove.

February 26, 2006

Song 060226 – Guitar 1
Song 060226 – Guitar 2

Little bits of guitar, played directly into Garage Band. This was mostly done to see if i could synch up guitar riffs that i had in my head with drum tracks.

Song 060226a

This one used a drum track that i created, adding in a piano loop on top of it.

February 27, 2006

Song 060227

This piece uses a guitar riff that i recorded, but the pitch changes are done by adjusting the same track in Garage Band. Then i put a provided harmanica loop over it.

March 4, 2006

Song 060304

On this one i played guitar then programmed in a bass track.

March 10, 2006

Song 060310

On this one i played both guitar and bass, then put a keyboard loop over it.

April 4, 2006

Song 060404

This one is all provided loops, although i may have played the last bit of guitar in it, i don’t remember.

April 5, 2006

Song 060405

This piece has a recorded bass track and then three guitar tracks on top of the drum loops. It’s also the longest to date, has some sort of melody, and fades out!

April 17, 2006

Song 060417a

A weird mix of provided loops, but a little more song structure. This is tagged 060417a because it was the second project that i happened to work on that day. The first one didn’t amount to much.

April 22, 2006

Song 060422

This piece uses part of a riff that i came up in the late 80s or early 90s. The parts other than the drum loops were programmed in Garage Band. I revisited this riff on September 26, 2018.

October 11, 2006

Song 061011

I think that i programmed the basic background rhythm, then added in the drum and piano loops. Another longer song, with a bridge of sorts.

June 27, 2007

Song 070627

Three recorded guitar parts (two on top of each other, one by itself) and a bass part with only a single drum loop. The middle guitar section is a little sloppy and it makes me wonder if i actually recorded it into Garage Band or if i pulled it off of a separate recording of me jamming on my guitar and just timed it into the beat. Not sure.
