Part 2: July – December

July 16

Another two-drum-track, four-guitar-track piece. I add a lot of guitar tracks sometimes because i don’t bother to plug in the bass.

Speaking of bass, this one has a programmed bass line which i think i played on the computer keyboard then tweaked to get the timing better.

July 18

Three guitars and one funky syncopated drum track.

July 22

Guitar riff in 6, drum track in 4.

July 28

More spacey stuff, but with a slightly more frenetic pace. Also it’s composed of three bars of 6 and one bar of 8 with a chorus part in 8.

August 13

Another spacey guitar line over a driving riff.

August 23

Three guitars over a thumping beat.

October 2

Another delay-driven piece that i’ve played for a while, but i added in a couple more guitars to muddy everything up.

October 21

I think i get tired of hearing the staccato notes that seem to be all i’m capable of playing.

I like how a disco-like beat will give an echoey 90s-alt-rock guitar sound a completely different feel.

October 26

I was playing with the “talkbox” funky guitar sound over a Motown beat.

November 13

A three-part amalgam of drum beats with one of my long-time delay-driven echo pieces over it.

November 14

Ooooh, FUNky. I programmed a funky bass line, then just noodled over it with a couple guitar tracks.

November 20

This one is a relatively new song that i was playing most of the summer, trying to figure out a melody to go with it. I think it might have potential to be something.

December 16

Another atmospheric piece that builds to nothing.

A simple crunchy riff over a swingy beat.

December 24

This one has a VERY Liz Phair-ish sound to it, although veers away at the chorus and once the third guitar comes in.

Sometimes i’ll play something that sounds kinda cool and i’ll loop it for a while to see if i can get some sort of coherent sound over it. Doesn’t always work.

A little noise to end out the year. I couldn’t figure out what to play over the chorus part of the main riff, so just made ticky noises along the fretboard.
